Dear Friends of the Yorkminstrels Theatre Company:

January, 2007

As you may know, the past few years have provided financial challenges for many community theatre groups throughout the GTA, including the Yorkminstrels. Despite these challenges, we have endeavoured to provide you, our patrons, with the same quality, professional theatre you have come to expect of us throughout the years. But, after 50 years, the times are changing and the Yorkminstrels are up for the challenge!

After considerable reflection and much soul searching, the Board of Directors has decided that the time is ripe for the Yorkminstrels to rediscover itself. We are determined to rebuild financially and find ways of reaching a new and more diversified audience base, while at the same time remaining true to our ideals and dedicated to the provision of high quality entertainment to our loyal, long standing patrons.

As part of the process, for this upcoming year, the Yorkminstrels will take a hiatus from its regular annual program of two full-scale musical theatre productions. Instead, among other things, we are planning a wonderfully entertaining Cabaret production, plans for which are already well underway. Performances by the talented Yorkminstrels Show Choir are also being considered as part of our season’s offering. The Choir will, at the same time, continue to perform throughout the year at retirement and nursing homes, community functions and fundraisers.

Final details of Yorkminstrels’ upcoming shows will be released shortly. In addition, we will keep this website updated with new information as it becomes available.

During this challenging period of rebuilding, long term plans will be determined, fine tuned and put into place, culminating in a more vibrant and exciting Yorkminstrels Theatre Company, with a new focus, a varied repertoire and a broad audience appeal. We invite you to join us on our journey of rediscovery and assure you it will be well worth the trip!
